Make some original music, damn it!
Here at work we have the radio on some atrocious commercial radio station.
Lately I have heard songs that consist of stupid, repititive lyrics sung over the tops of the music from:

Miserlou
My Sharona
Tainted Love

I mean, really, at least have the decency to do a cover version or something.

Actually, to make it worse, the Tainted Love music is from Soft Cell's version - which means they are sampling a cover!

Why is sampling a cover worse than sampling anything else? Particularly because Soft Cell's version is the definitive, popular one.

I hate the sampling too, by the way. Damn you, Nova.

It's not really worse, but it adds an extra element of irony.
But, not the good kind.

I was recently in a shop overheard a cover of U2's "One", which also had singing over the top. It was godawful.

See also: Superstition (Steve Wonder); A Man After Midnight (ABBA); Staying Alive (Bee Gees) and probably several others that I can't recall off the top of my head.

Where has the originality gone?!

I like to avoid the radio. Playing CDs on repeat is the only way to go! No ads, no silly annoying radio hosts, no songs I'd rather not hear...

PS - Also, I have friended you as I like what I've seen of your journal. I hope you do not mind.

I mean, I friended you back.
