Westgate Siege
It took me two and a half hours to get home from St Albans today.
It normally takes a bit over half an hour.
Why?
Because some fuckwit with stolen licence plates pulled a shotgun on police.
My sources tell me that police are still negotiating with him, now, nine hours after the siege began.

This comes from news.com.au:
"Snr Sgt Jackson said traffic diversions were in place and he asked drivers to be patient as they tried to resolve the incident peacefully.

But irate Melbourne motorists called talk-back radio stations claiming the police had held motorists to ransom for the interests of one man."

So, let me get this straight.
Irate motorists wanted some guy DEAD, so they could get home in time to watch Neighbours?

I mean, the guys obviously stupid, insane or worse, but he's still a person.
He needs to spend some time resting, in his nice new jacket, that's all.

Actually, he pulled the gun on himself...
From the footage I saw, and what they were saying on the news, he was/is threatening to kill himself. He pulled the gun to scare the cops off, now that he's realised he's in shit he's threatening to top himself.

I imagine we wont find out exactly what's going on until it's over, because while he has access to the media (i.e. mobile phone and radio in car) they wont want to say anything to make the situation worse.

Re: Actually, he pulled the gun on himself...
The report I read said that he threatened to kill himself ans anyone who came near. In that order?

Anyway, the fucker surrendered, after ELEVEN hours. ELEVEN! After that long it seems almost a pity not to go down in a blaze of gunfire. Kind of an anti-climax.
