Interview by escarpe

1. Are some people more important/valuable than others, if so why?

I think objectively you can definitely say that certain people have contributed much more to society than most. However, I think you can only say this in hindsight. It's like that speech Gandalf gives in the LOTR movie (does he say it in the book?) about even the wise being unable to see all ends, you can't pre-judge a person's worth, because people have a peculiar habit of surprising you. Besides which, the greatest of us all are somebody's son or daughter. Who knows what even the most useless person's genetic legacy might be.

2. Diving with sharks? Or spending 10 hours with "special" hookers?

Assuming all safety procedures were in place, I think diving with sharks would be pretty damn awesome. I don't think I'm quite ready to stoop to paying disabled people for sex, or able-bodied people for that matter.

3. Do you celibate Christmas if so why?

I don't care what holiday it is, I'm never celibate by choice.

Okay, assuming that that was a typo, the answer is yes, I do celibrate Christmas. Christmas is very much a family time for us, and my family have pretty much always celebrated Christmas in a very secular fashion. I mean, I was ostensibly raised Catholic, but that pretty much just amounted to being sent to Catholic school, my immediate family has never really been that deeply into the church. Many in my extended family take it a little more seriously, but as far as I'm concerned Christmas has always been about booze, food and presents, and I see little reason to change that.

4. Hypocrisy? Fine or not fine?

Fine for me, not fine for anyone else.

Seriously though, it is easier to see the faults in others than it is to see them in yourself. I always try to avoid being hypocritical, but it's easier said than done.

5. What's the best film you've seen this year?

The best film I saw this year I would have to say was Sympathy For Mr Vengeance. Amazing, powerful stuff. However, that isn't a new film, so if I had to choose the best film I saw that was new, I think it's a toss-up between Tideland and The Host, with Sympathy For Lady Vengeance, The Descent, A Scanner Darkly and Little Miss Sunshine getting honourable mentions. There are just so many good films to be seen, especially at the Melbourne International Film Festival. If you didn't get to the festival this year, shame on you, I'll see you there next year.

Oh, okay, and a special mention to, believe it or not, Jackass 2 for being one of the funniest damn things I have ever seen. I highly recommend it to any males reading this. Somehow I don't think too many chicks are going to dig this one.

And I'm sure there are a tonne of awesome films I have left out.

I just thought of another one, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. I'm annoyed I didn't see this at the cinema when I had the chance, because it was one surprisingly hilarious noiresque romp.

Damn you, could you have asked a more difficult to pin down question?
