Movie Night
The two Brad Pitt films - Fight Club & Snatch came in a dead heat.
Now I have a bit of a problem.
My Snatch DVD is not playing for some reason.
I'm getting the error message "C:13:00 This Disc is Dirty".
But the disc isn't dirty, and it isn't scratched.
So, why I am getting this error message?
I'd like to play Snatch on the night, but unless I can a) work out this problem or b) get an alternate copy of Snatch that works, it'll have to be Fight Club (boo frickety hoo).

So the movies we will be watching on the night are (in no particular order):

Snatch/Fight Club
The Shining
Spider-man
The Big Lebowski
Highlander

Now, when do people want to have this night?

It may not be playing the disc if the laser is out of alignment on your DVD player... I'm currently having that problem with my PS2 not playing a couple of the DVD's that I own, but it will play most others. For the PS2 apparently it's not hard to fix, so I'm going to try it some time when I get the chance.

But it's only happening with one out of my entire collection.

But it only happens on two out of my collection. And those two work in both of the other DVD drives I have in computers. All the PS2 games work fine in the PS2, as do the other 20 odd DVD's.

Meh. I'll have to try the disc on another player.

Maybe your problem stemmed from the fact that PS2 sucks.

How did I know that that would come into it at some stage... I got the PS2 because I like the controller and the games better than any other platform. Given that I have two other DVD players, the fact that it plays DVD's is just convenient. I've had no issues with playback quality that I haven't seen on other more expensive players.

You must have a pretty crappy TV, because I notice a huge difference in the quality of the output.

DVDs played on a PS2 end up pretty fuzzy. It's downright degrading to the medium.

That's why you should get an X-Box. It's goodness! It has a hard disk and it's more powerful (I actually have both, because there are some good games on the PS2, but I still prefer the X-Box despite the fact that it's Microsoft).

Maybe I just don't notice because I've never compared it directly with something... and maybe also because my eyesight is failing.

I may end up with an X-Box, they seem to be giving them away with everything nowadays, so if I can scoop one up when I renew my phone plan, then I'll have something to compare it with.

There's one problem with the X-Box DVD player though. Obviously they didn't want people to run around using a regular controller to operate the DVD player, like you can with the PS2. You have to buy a remote for it. It's worth it though. Set up the X-box right and you can watch DivX files and so forth on it. I'll be watching Ghost in the Shell fansubs on it soon.

May I unsubtly yank this thread back on topic?
My vote is for a Saturday night sometime soon.

Re: May I unsubtly yank this thread back on topic?
Only problem there is that Emily works on Saturdays, so it will probably have to be a Friday.

It's all the same to me, as long as my timetable doesn't end up squished together with ten things happening in one week or something.
