Bad Service  
Why am I always surprised by bad service in the retail and food industries?
I mean, it happens so often I should almost expect it.

Today Emily and I went to a cafe for coffee with a friend.
We walked through the cafe and to the rear courtyard, where we sat at a table.
There were two other tables that were occupied in the courtyard, and after we sat down both tables had food/drinks brought to them by two different members of the waiting staff.
Ten minutes later we are musing on the likelihood of neither of them having seen us.

I have to temper my opening comments by saying that I have had plenty of good service experiences, otherwise I wouldn't expect good service.
There is nothing more likely to turn you off a particular cafe than bad service, and that includes bad food (although it's a close second).

Matt and i went to the Pancake Parlour at Forest Hill last night for dinner before seeing a movie. Being a public holiday, there was only a bare minimum crew on - one waiter, one girl doing till/bar/everything else, one chef and one manager. The service we got was excellent considering how busy the place was. We had to leave before desert as the movie was starting, but came back after the movie (nothing shall deprive me of my blintzes! Its so nice to have someone else make them!)and the manager remembered our original order was very nice. So, big praise to Forest Hill Pancake Parlour last night. You guys rocked.
That was largely an irrelevant thing to point out, but fun anyway. Outstanding service is usually just as memorable as lousy service.

I find the Pancake Parlour (in the city) is usually very good also.

I think perhaps Scientologists are just naturally good at being subservient.
