Olympics Schedule
Does anyone know where I can get a decent, web-based, updated schedule of Olympic events, preferably with an Australian focus?

The Channel Seven site is fucking useless, and the official Athens one is kind of complicated to navigate.

Really, what I'm looking for is somewhere that will tell me when an Australian is in a final, so I can watch/tape it.

Am I correct in thinking that Ian thorpe is swimming the 400m at 3:54am? (AEST)

Oh, well, Roy and HG are on in five minutes, I'm sure they'll have the info I need.

Does anyone else think it odd that Roy and HG are on in the middle of the Olympic day, while events are presumably on?

Michael just looked up the swimming too (on the olympics page and a couple others, he reckons 7 suck too) and worked it out to be 3:54am also. but queenalex seems to think it's 2:30am, so I dunno.

It was 2:54, I hope you didn't miss it.
Although the highlight was surely the women's 4x100.
A gold medal, a world record and a weeping teenaged champion.
Great stuff.

We decided not to stay up anyway, but I'm glad it was worth it :)

I didn't stay up either, but I have this amazing technology called a VCR.

Ooh...didn't think of that. Although I don't know if that'd be too interested. I mean, I'm happy to have the TV on and absorb the odd event (and the 50 or so replays of each of our medals so far), but actually planning... hmm...
Jacobyak_boy on August 15th, 2004 05:40 am (UTC)
Well, I'm also taping events for eec, because she's in Thailand.

http://theage.com.au/olympics/schedule/day2_byTime.html

The age website has an Athens 2004 page (if that link doesn't work), and you can find a schedule and sort things by time or by event, and then choose Australian or Athens times :)

It doesn't help with working out what will be on TV, but at least we know what's on...
Jacobyak_boy on August 14th, 2004 11:36 pm (UTC)
Well, it does help with the TV, since you can be pretty certain that any of the following will be telecast:

Swimming events
Any final with an Aussie in it

Yeah, good point. It's better than the cruddy tv guide, which just says what's on in a given 7 hour block (possibly in no particular order).

The official Athens page is the definitive source.
I'm getting used to the navigation, but it is a bit clunky.

I am cataclysmically uninterested in the Olympics.
Jacobyak_boy on August 14th, 2004 11:39 pm (UTC)
Sport = entertainment.
Nothing more, nothing less.

That said, sport is the only arena in which I actually feel a twinge of patriotism, but me barracking for Australia is just as arbitrary as me barracking for Essendon in the AFL.

I don't even know what "cataclysmically" means, but, me too!
Jacobyak_boy on August 15th, 2004 05:07 am (UTC)
cataclysm
noun

1. A violent upheaval that causes great destruction or brings about a fundamental change.
2. A violent and sudden change in the earth's crust.
3. A devastating flood.

cataclysmic or cataclysmal adjective
cataclysmically adverb

I'm not sure how it's possible to be violently uninterested in something. Perhaps sinisterglint is planning on unleashing the fury of a storm on anyone that mentions the Olympic games to him.
Kittymoorekittie on August 15th, 2004 05:09 am (UTC)
Hmm, thanks for the lesson. I was actually just about to look it up.

Perhaps I shall have to join him if he does...

Very useful.
I use it all the time.

Isn't that where I get the word of the day from?
Jacobyak_boy on August 15th, 2004 05:52 am (UTC)
One place of many.
Kittymoorekittie on August 15th, 2004 05:56 am (UTC)
Hmmm

"Perhaps sinisterglint is planning on unleashing the fury of a storm on anyone that mentions the Olympic games to him."
Hmmm. That's not such a bad idea...
