To all (potential) songwriters
Never rhyme the words "wake up" with "make up". It's been done to fucking death.

That is all.

This morning I woke up,
and put on my moke-up.

(You know someone's going to use those lyrics eventually.)

Done and well-known!

Re: Done and well-known!
That's wake up/make up, not woke up/moke up.

The print is small, and I rarely examine the interiors of words closely.

Can I still rhyme "Lie" and "Cry"?
Are you thinking of a certian Mr Hal David here?
I believe he started it.

Re: Can I still rhyme "Lie" and "Cry"?
I wasn't specifically thinking of anyone, other than the song I had just heard which was a song by Wintergreen called... wait for it... "When I Wake Up".

Kinda cool music video, however.

Hmmm... Somehow I missed this post originally.

What if you add a third line that then rhymes them with shakeup?
Jacobyak_boy on May 11th, 2006 12:05 am (UTC)
No, your precious System of a Down does not get a pass on this one.
Outlier Manlukeii on May 11th, 2006 12:27 am (UTC)
Well they did write their song well before you put out this important warning.
Jacobyak_boy on May 11th, 2006 01:19 am (UTC)
Yeah, but it had been done to death before they wrote their song.

I guess the issue is that a huge percentage of lyrics-writing is the worst kind of doggeral anyway. Although, of course, there are plenty of notable exceptions.
