Marvel 1602

Not only the best looking comic I've ever read, but a damned good story too.

The whole premise of this story was fraught with danger - it could easily have been a series of bad jokes linking modern Marvel characters with their 17th Century counterparts. As it was, it was very well crafted, serious, but not too serious to have plenty of good jokes to link to the modern heroes.

Gaiman has a genuine love for these characters, and he treats them with respect, whilst at the same time totally pulling apart their stories and crafting something entirely new.

And did I mention how pretty this book is?
