With a caveat that it really depends on how I am feeling with regards pulp at the time.

Pulp is only for orange juice, and occasionally pineapple. All other juice should be pulp free.

The question applies only to orange juice.
Jacobyak_boy on July 24th, 2006 09:41 am (UTC)
Although I can't think what other juices even come with pulp.
Apart from fresh squeezed, of course.

There's cloudy apple juice, but that's not really the same thing.

Grapefruit, Mixed juices (orance mango etc), and mandarin.

Also, I am not totally convinced that you are not just trying to incite LJ-drama.

I reckon the preference for pulp could have to do with the quality of the juice. Cheap and nasty juice made from concentrate is pulp free. If, like me, your parents gave you this long life juice made from pulp as a kid, rather than anything even remotely fresh, then I think there is an association between juice with pulp and quality.

Alternately there are plenty of cheap and nasty fruit drinks out there that have pulp even though there is very little juice. I'd much rather pure, fresh juice without pulp than cheap and nasty fruit drink with pulp.

I don't really remember what we had as kids.

What prompted the question, however, was that at the supermarket they had the same brand of OJ in the pulpy and pulp-free varieties. Both good quality 100% juice (Daily Juice Company), just one had the pulp removed.

And it just made me think about how much more I prefer my juice to be pulpy. I'm not even sure why, but it's just so much better with pulp.

Like crunchy peanut butter. Although it's less of a mystery why that's better than smooth.
