If you can decipher the stupid seppo dating system, my paid account now expires ten days before my birthday. So, if you're wondering what you want to give me for my twenty-fourth...

Septic Tank

That should clear it up for you...

That's not a seppo dating system - it's a dating system that doesn't conform to 'normal' dating systems in specific countries. It means everyone has to look at it for a little while to work out what it is...

Oh, that and it sorts more easily in computers...

It's an international dating system

Yeah, you're right.
The American dating system is MM-DD-YYYY, not YYYY-MM-DD.

The problem is that glancing at that date it could be either March 10 or October 3, and without some other context you can't tell which. It just happened that I knew that my account was due to expire in February.

"It means everyone has to look at it for a little while to work out what it is"

My point being that, having no other context (and no knowedge of which dating system they are using), I could stare at that date forever and never be 100% certain whether it is March or October.

Although, I do concede that if they had used the "Australian" dating system (DD-MM-YYYY) I would still have the same problem.

There needs to be an international standard and, more importantly, everyone needs to use it.

Both DD-MM-YYYY and YYYY-MM-DD make sense logically (ascending and descending respectively), but the normal US dating system of MM-DD-YYYY just makes no sense.

Whenever you see the year first, the format is YYYY-MM-DD.

If it's YYYY-DD-MM then the person writing it grew up on Krypton...

Yes, that's right - I'm looking at you Superman!

Sorry. My bad.

With Regards,                 Superman

Take that, Superman!

Oh no, you've made me old!
_generalzod_ on July 4th, 2004 05:38 am (UTC)
That's not true.

*I* certainly don't get the date format wrong.

If only Planet Houston had accepted me as it's ruler you would have had a standardised system!

Ha ha ha. I just reaslised what you meant.

I thought you meant "dating system" as in "Click here to meet the love of your life!"

Ha ha ha
