On a lighter note...
Okay, I'll admit it, I watch Australian Idol.

And, as many of you may already know, I am a huge fan of The Beatles.

Therefore, I looked forward to last night's show with a mix of excitement and dread.

My analysis:

Worst. Episode. Ever.

No less than four contestants forgot the words.

If Cassie had mumbled like that during the "final hundred" auditions she would have been off the show in a flash.

What the hell happened?

Even the self-confessed Beatles fan fucked up.

And before all you Anthony lovers get too excited, his so-called "modern" take was a load of gospel rubbish.

I thought Marty did the best - and I can't stand the guy!

I knew you would be unimpressed with the show. It was pretty bad, they could have chosen so much better songs, and I can't believe how many of them fucked up. You are right about Casey, she's gone tonight and I so wanted it to be Marty, and I have to agree that he was one of the best and I can't stand him either

I am so glad I have no idea who the people in question are in real life, as well as the fact that I didn't have the misfortune of having to put up with listening to good Beatles' music being wrecked so that Pepsi can use a new face on their billboard posters in a few months' time.

Have I mentioned how much I hate "reality" TV?

Tut tut, Mareth, its all in good fun. And to tell yout he truth, I look forward to having someone else on Pepsi billboards because 'Our Little Delta' makes me want to kill myself.

Then again, there can't be anyone worse than Guy Sebastian staring at us.....

At least I hope not.

My problem with those Pepsi posters is not who is on them, but the fact that the whole ad campaign hinges on people being stupid enough to go, "Well, [Delta/Scud/Guy/Random Celeb] drinks Pepsi, so I should too."

In fact, the funniest thing is, in many (most? all?) of the posters, the bottle isn't even open, so they don't drink Pepsi, they just pose with the bottle!

I agree with what you say about the vapid stupidity of people who rationalise advertising that way, my main complaint with Guy Sebastian is that he's a complete eyesore.

I think the reason none of the bottles are ever open is because some advertising psychology guru probably said that having an open bottle near the mouth is an indication of fellatio and we can't be encouraging the kids to be performing fellatio, especially when we have males on the posters. I totally made that bit up but it sounds plausible.

Yeah, plausible like a fox.
Mikmareth_redorb on October 11th, 2004 09:01 pm (UTC)
Given that my first two girlfriends were psychology students who spent as much of their time as possible telling me what was wrong with me from a Jungian/Freudian point of view, are you in any way surprised I can come up that particular line of bullshit?

Makes me want to kill her publicist.

Personally I can't believe that Ricki got booted!

But i must admit that I am getting right into Idol this year, probably a carry over from my ongoing affair with Eurovision. Yes, Idol is like a poor man's Eurovision. Marty is like Germmany. Yes, Germany, definitely. This deserves its own post i think...

I was going to post about the travesty that was this week's elimination show, but someone else on my friends list beat me to it, so I just agreed with them in a comment.

Not a mutual friend, so I guess my feelings on the matter weren't obvious.
